Rupee is the official currency of India. The distribution & handling is done by the Reserve Bank of India (RBI). All bank notes of India carry the signature of Reserve Bank of India's Governor's Signature except the One Rupee note which has the Finance Secretary's signature.
The first Finance Secretary of India was KRK Menon and the first RBI Governor was CD Deshmukh.
The One Rupee note ceased to be in existence in a1994. Similarly the Two rupee notes printing was stopped in 1995 for economical reasons during the reign of C Rangarajan. The printing of Five Rupees has been on and off and most likely will be discontinued soon. In the pas they also had Rs.5000/- and Rs.10000/- Rupees notes and they were discontinued during the emergency period in 1970's.
